The Dallas Mavericks (often referred to as the Mavs) are a professional basketball team based in Dallas, Texas.

According to a 2012 Forbes Magazine report, they are the fourth most-valuable team in the US, valued approximately at $497 million, only surpassed by the NY KNICKS, LA LAKERS and CHICAGO BULLS.
Since they were founded (1980) they have obtained three division titles (1987,2007 and 2010), two conference championships (2006 and 2011) and one NBA championship (2011)
•Rivalries
Mavs v/s Spurs (SA)
The Mavericks-Spurs rivalry is relatively new but very fierce. It features two teams with Dallas roots—the Spurs began their life in the ABA(American Basketball Association) as the Dallas Chaparrals and did not move to San Antonio until 1973. On 1980 the MAVS made their debut on the NBA after defeating the SA Spurs (103-92).
In the playoffs the Spurs defeated the Mavs in 2001, 2003, and 2010; while the Mavs defeated the Spurs in 2006 and 2009.
Mavs v/s Suns (Phoenix)
During the 2004 off-season, former Dallas Mavericks point guard Steve Nash signed a free-agent deal with the 29–53 Phoenix Suns to help out their offense. The addition of Nash helped as Phoenix rolled to a 62–20 record and the best record in the NBA.
Both teams met in the western conference semi-finals with Phoenix having the home-court advantage.
In the first game Phoenix won 127-102 (40 points to Amar'e Stoudemire)
In the second one the Mavs won 108-106
Both teams won at Dallas home-court, while in the seventh game the Phoenix took the last game.
